Rafailovits Leonidas (Corfu,1846-1902)

Special Corfiot military musician (warrant officer), composer and conductor of the famous music band of the 10th regiment of infantry (The seat of this band was in Corfu, and during the 30 years that this band was in order, the band plays a major role in the music history of Corfu, and of the Ionian Island Music. This band dissolve on 1893 when the state of Greece bankrupt). This philarmonic consist of corfiot musicians and there a was a great level of music knowledge. There was also a section of young musicians that was educated in music and also they were taking military education. Rafailovits was also one of the founders of the "Drama friend society Phoinix" (1869) and also a separated members of Phoinix that after some time created the "Drama friend Society <<Kapodistrias>>" (13.07.1872). It worth to be mentioned that these two societies after some time made up a union at the "Dramatic Club of Corfu" which president was K. Kalosgouros. On August 1890 he conducted (in cooperation with the conductor E.Sassoli) the band of the unity of Philarmonic Society of Corfu, and the Military Band on corfiots composers' music (Mantzaros music, Rodotheatos music, Samaras music, etc). A little later, on 17.02.1891, Ralailovits become the donductor-director of Philarmonic Society Mantzaros, taking the lead from A. RInopoulos. He remained in this position untill 25.02.1898, as he was already the director of the Corfu Music School (Adronis was displaced).
