Rompotis Gerasimos An. (Lixouri 1903 - Corfu 1987)

He was a Corfiot composer (member of FEM), a pianist, a player of flaute and conductor-director pf band (he was a great conductor before the war and also after the war). He was the son of An. Rompotis and he followed for a while the movings of his father (after he was written on the catalogs of Municipalituy of Corfu). He took his first musician knowledges from his father and after he continued studying music at the Hellenic Music School (1924,1927 with teacher M. Varvogli, D. Mitropoulos and V. Sozopoulos). As a student he was hored with the second prize on composing (for the work 'Ek ton Eleutheron Poliorkimenon", at a contest of the Military Ministry (the first prize was given to M. kalomoiris). Additionally his work "Agrotiko Dipticho" (on lines of Sp. Rompotis) win the first prize at the competition of the Greek Choir (1934). It is thought that his first work was "St. Dionisios" for band (that on the manuscript has the subtitle "March Religiuse" and was orchestrated on 1926). On 1922 he take his diploma from the Public Trading School of Corfu and after he was in Athens for his military services (untill 1924), but he remain military for three more years as a permanent flautist. At the age of 27 he was appointed at the Arsakeio School of Corfu as a teacher and he made a carrer of a special musician - teacher of music that Corfu ecer had. As he was in his youth he married with Theodora (Lola) Dapergolas, who was a really helpful friend and husband for him (their son Tasos Kourfis, born in orfu on 1929 is a hjonored poet and also an admiral). During his days he give without salary, his educationalistic skill at the philarmonic society of Corfu, and this was the reason that he was honored by the philarmonic for his services (1978). Also he was the dorector of the Musci School of Corfu and he was the director - conductor of Philarmonic Society Mantzaros (1.6.1932 - 16.3.1933). Before that, he was was the leader of the Music School Rompotis that his father has established (1928 - 1932). Despite the little time that this school was in order, there was a great work over the teaching of music. He has organized a full and modernized Music School with schools of theoritical music - music orchestration, Symfonic Orchestra, Choir of men and women, and also band (that made the first apperance on the Vaion litany of 1928, consisting of 40 musicians and conductor An. P. Rompotis). On 08.10.1931 Gerasimos Rompotis performed the operete 'Ipopsofios Vouleutis" with his orchestration. Except from Corfu he was a teacher at the High School of Kyparissias(1934) and at the High School of Tripoli (1935), and he on July of 1935 he become the vice director of the "Philarmonic Society of Tripoli", where he create a band and also a musci school (it is reported that on 1937 he left Tripoli, as he was not presented to king George, while the king was visiting the Philrmonic). He taught music also at the Women High School of Pyrgos (for two months on the fall of 1937) and at the Arsakeio of patras (1937-1948). Additionally it is mentioned that he moved to Athens and he taught at the Arsakeion of Athens, as he also cooperate with the magazine "Elliniki Dimiourgia" (1948-1950). On 1949 he created the Choir of the graduates of Arsakeion and on 1950he wrote music-pedagogic works (Theory of music, Canons of music reading, and voval exercises). On 1953 he was again at the recreation of the Philarmonic Society of Tripoli and after some months he left again. After that he took he retirement from Arsakeion nand on 1963 he take the lead of the music School of Ioannina and of the Philarmonic of Ioannina (1965-1966). SInce 1967 he moved to Corfu and on the decade of 1970 he was the artistic manager and honorarly director of Philarmonic Society of Corfu (1976-1980). Also on 1978 exept of the honor that he took from the philarmonic society of Corfu he also was honored by the municipallity of Corfu. During the decade of 1980 he left the Philarmonic due to the disaggrement with the council of the philarmonic. After that he worked alone and he worked with his works (he compose a lot of music pieces) and the orchestration of the works that he create in the past. He died due to a heart attack, at the yard of his house at Kanoni Corfu (05/07/1987). His students were the unforgotable D. Dapergolas, I.P.Argaleias, Sp. kazianis (the composer), N.S. Kritikos, etc.

He compose a lot of music works:

á) Lyrical Works: "H Korh tou fonia" one move drama (45', line by Sa. Rompotis, "O Xristos eis tin eortin tou Pourim" (lines Bonio, translation M. Iandou and Sp. Rompotis) one move drama with music and choir (40', Main roles: Magdalini, Ioydas, Jesus Voice, Ekatontarxos, Etaira, Grammateas, Farisaios, Legewnarios).

â) Chorals (with orch.): "Docologeia kai leitourgeia" In A minor Þ "Leitourgia tou Xrisostomou" (1931, 1 hour and 15'). "Ek ton Eleutheron Poliorkimenon" (1926, line of D. Solomos, 8'), "agrtiko tripticho" (1933, 9'), "Ymnos stin Kerkira " (1927), "Imnos stous athanatous nekrous" (1929, as the last in line of Sp. Rompotis, "Maures Skies " (1954), "Deithite gia tou kosmou tin Eirini" (1958), "Psalmos E' tou David" (Kantata, 1965-66), etc.

ã) music for orchestra: "Gamilio emvatirio" (1926, for the marriage of his brother Spyros), "Ellinikai Stigmaiß' For symfonic orchestra (1930, 12' with the title "Synfoniko Skito" and with the orchestration of 1949 it was performed a lot of times by the symfonic orchestra of EIR with conductor A. Euaggelatos) , "Krisnas" (Overture of the opera with the same name athat was not written at the end, 1930), "Concert for piano in C minor." (20', 1930, written for the pianist Maria Markogiannakis. if this piece was written on 1939 then it is the 10th greek work of the same kind), "De Profundis " (4 parts Suite for strings. the work was performed completely for the first time on 14.04.1958 by the string orchestra of EIR and on 1959 this piece won the second prize on the contest of EEM. 18'), "Menuet" (firstly it was written for piano, and it was reorchestrated on 1930), "Mynphi kai Satiros" (ballet, performed symfonically by the orchestra of The ROmpotis School on 12.4.1930), "Prelude" (1944), "Litrosis - Synfoni nr.1" (1961), "Small concert for trumbetand string orchestra " (1982-83), e.t.c.

ä) Chamber Music: "Preludiï e Fuga" (for violin, cello - piano, 9'), "Elegeia" (fro vilin, piano, 4'),"Afipnisi" (1925, for flaute and piano, 4'), "Elegy" (for piano, 3"), "Choros tou Zaloggou " (1938, for piano) , "O naos " (1948, Palama) and"Strofes" (1949, Malakasi, as the last: for sopreno, violin, cello, piano), "Trio" (1951, for niolin, cello, piano), "Quartet of strings in C minor" (1985), etc.

å) For mix choir a capella: Choir and 6 voice Fuga "Se imnoumen" (7'), "Sto Cheimadio " in line of Sp. Rompotis (4'), "Efedrikos Pean " (with band), e.t.c.

óô) For men Choir: "I Anthi " (1938, 3'), "Eonio Paramithi " (1931, Line of Sp. Rompotis also eith orchestra), "Kaimoi tis stanis"(lost), "I Nichta plakonei" (1938, 3'), "Apocheretismos ÉÉ" (1959, lost), etc.

ç) Songs with piano: "I agapi kai o poiitis" (1944, Palamas, 2'), "Prosefchi ton piston " ( Malakasis, 2' and with orch. also), "Ta fila " (Porfira, 2' êáé ìå ïñ÷.) , "Sonet" (Voutieridis, 2'), "To tragoudi this monaxias" (1949), "Pios xerei" and "Stis lemonies " 2', all of them are works of A. Vita), "Tragoudié" (Ê. Palamas, 1'.30"). "Canzonetta " (1928, Sp. Rompotis, 1'.30"), "To treno " (1931, Sp. Rompotis also eith orch.), "Opou pros to vradi" and "Aftiasto kai astolisto" (both of them works of Palamas 1948), "Agiasmena Heria " (1949), "O Ellinikos Stratos" (1952;), etc.

è) Ypokrousies: "Thrilos Agapis " (1929, Porfira, 7'), "Ginaika thalasa" (narator and orchestra, 1930), "Digenis Akritas " (scene music, lost) ,etc.

é) MUSIC FOR BAND: "Funeral March " (1935), "Tripolis" (March, 1937), "11 of August " (Prossecion march), 1938), "Greek songs and dances'" (for choir and band, 1953), "Prosefchi" (1959), "Platitera ton Ouranon " (1969), "St. Spyridon "(1978;), "Thriskeftiko Tripticho" (1979), "21 of May " (1979), "I apomaxoi é" (1984), "Protokyriako" (1987, Procession march, his last music work)

Due to his character he bnever try to promote his work and his music. This is the reason that there above are written the most of his works.
